In March, Vivat Bacchus is launching their Wine and Wisdom Quiz which will offer teams of local City slickers the chance to indulge in a bit of healthy competition and taste some of the rarest and most exclusive wines in the world, such as Chateau d'Yquem and Chateau Lafite Rothschild.
Teams will be made up of 6 members and 2 reserves from the same company and the first round will take place at the Farringdon branch on March 17th. The knock-out competition on Tuesday evenings will combine general trivia, wine themed questions and a blind taste test. Those that get knocked out in the early stages have the chance to enter the Vivat Bacchus Plate and there will be a separate pro competition for experts involved in the wine and restaurant industry.
The prize for the winning team is a £600 voucher for a party or a meal at either of the Vivat Bacchus branches, while the runners-up will get a six pack of Paul Cluver wines each. The big winners, however, will be the charities. A charity chosen by the winning team will receive £2500 and the same amount will go to the two South African charities - The Paul Jungnickel Home for the Mentally Handicapped in Pretoria and the Umzi Whetu Acadamy for Aids Orphans in Port Elizabeth.
The entry fee is £15 per person per round and includes a welcome drink of a glass of Paul Cluver Sauvignon Blanc. All entries will be eligible for a six pack of Ayala Brut Champagne to be drawn on the final night. On the first Monday night of March (2nd), Vivat Bacchus will be hosting a trial run at the Wine Club so that entrants can get to grips with the format.
The deadline for entry is Friday 27th February so you’ve still got time to round up your most knowledgeable colleagues and sign up at http://www.vivatbacchus.co.uk/winequiz/index.asp
