This morning Visit London released details about some of the foodie events taking place as part of the London Restaurant Festival this October. We were most interested in the ‘Gourmet Odysseys’ which will see hungry Londoners taken on a gastronomic road trip around central London to eat one course at three top restaurants. The tours start with a glass of Mumm Champagne at the Met Bar in Mayfair and then a fleet of Routemaster buses will set off in four different directions. Here are the planned routes:
Piccadilly: Starter: Nobu → Main Course – The Square → Pudding – The Greenhouse
Soho: Starter – Maze → Main Course – Hakkasan → Pudding – Quo Vadis
Pall Mall: Starter – Sake No Hana → Main Course – Hibiscus → Pudding – Wild Honey
Park Lane: Starter – Theo Randall → Main Course – Corrigan’s → Pudding – Scott’s
The Gourmet Odysseys will take around four hours to complete and the hefty £135 price tag includes the three courses, Champagne on arrival and four glasses of wine. To add to the experience, there will be a well-known restaurant critic or chef on board the bus to guide diners through the Capital’s culinary hot spots. If the bus tours are out of your budget, head for The Big Roast where tickets are priced at £40 or £50 – depending on how close to the chef’s kitchen you want to sit. It will take place at Leadenhall Market as part of their annual Game Fair and will see hundreds of people sitting at trestle tables to enjoy a huge Sunday roast.
There will be five different roast meats on offer, cooked by celeb chefs like John Torode, Mark Hix, Rowley Leigh, Fergus Henderson and Richard Corrigan. The event is BYO so you can pick up some booze en route or at the pubs around the market. For tickets and more details, click here.
Interesting concept using the bus to ferry people around and taste food from various restaurants...extremely innovative
