Following the success of their first night market last December, The StockMKT team are back in Bermondsey this Friday, with further dates lined up in June, August and beyond. Last year, they successfully recreated the buzz of night markets in the Far East (despite the cold weather!) and this year promises to be bigger and better with more stalls, street food and music.
From 5.30 to 10pm, Bermondsey Square will be illuminated by a special outdoor light installation created by local Boutcher Primary School pupils in collaboration with guerrilla artists, Light Collective. The Culture Cuts Collective DJs are returning with a special StockMKT playlist and there will be live music from Albert Ball’s Flying Aces. You can splash some cash at the stalls selling new food products, crafts, vintage clothing, and local art.
We suggest arriving hungry because some of London’s top street food vendors will be in attendance, including old favourites like Big Apple Hot Dogs, Bhangra Burger and Sweet Tooth Factory. Don’t miss the action at Kebab Kitchen, a brand new venture from food writers Oliver Thring and James Ramsden who have been touring Turkey in search of the most authentic kebabs.
Look out for hot new vendors like Pizza Pilgrims, Horn OK Please (Indian street snacks), Marisa’s Hot Potatoes, Mauritian Street Food, and Pom Pom Takoyaki (Japanese octopus balls and other snacks on sticks). Scotch egg maestro, the Egg Boss, will be serving the StockEgg (made with goose rather than the traditional pork) and Bea’s of Bloomsbury is hoping to satisfy your sweet tooth with deep-fried brownies, homemade ice-cream, cakes and more. Liquid refreshment will be available in the form of bubble tea and cocktails made with Kamm & Sons ginseng liqueur.
The StockMKT – Friday 27th April, Bermondsey Square, SE1 3UN. Check out their website for more details or follow them on twitter, @TheStockMKT. The market will return to Bermondsey in June, August, September and November, and it will also be ‘on tour’ in other London locations.
